Brian May, born in Twickenham, England began his musical at the age of just five, when he learnt to play the piano. Then by the age of just 6, he used his musical talents to play the ukelele. Then on his seventh birthday, he got his first accoustic guitar and soon began altering it to make it more handleable and to give an electric strum. When he grew to his mid-teens, he decided he wanted an electric guitar, which unfortunatly, his family couldn't afford. Brian and his father decided to build an electric guitar together to exactly how he wanted as Brian was a talented student studying physics and planning a career in astronomy. They both had experience in wood and metal work, so that helped alot. Brian, instead of using a guitar pick/plectrum, he used an old. English. six pence coin. He found, after much examination, that he preferred the sound it gave, and felt that he had more control over the sound and it had more contact with the strings. The six pence hasn't been in use since the early seventies, so in late 1992/early 1993, Brian got the Royal Mint to make up coins that he would use as picks/plectrums. The coins made up were sold on Brian's 'Back To The Light' tour and through Adrian Hopkins, the merchandise company that works with the International Queen Fan Club, but they sold out of them in mid 1994. (But don't worry, you can sometimes see these coins on www.ebay.com / www.ebay.co.uk !!!!!)
